Well, I just saw the great news article that $liquisoft put up and I thought "man... I should give it a try".

First entry ftw.

I've had this idea for some weeks in my head, and BAAM, the chance to show it appears in this contest.

Well, here is the concept idea, clearly explained in the image itself. I know it needs some tweaks, but I'll update this soon.

Maybe a new mascot will go along with it? :#1:

In it of itself, I think it's a pretty cool design. However, there are a few areas that need to be further explored.

1) If they really are made with the dA letters, it's not pronounced enough to be taken into consideration, especially in the b/w version.

2) They contest page mentioned that it'd be best if the logo could fit nicely in a rounded square. This design leaves wasted space above/below. Not sure if that matters much, but if it can be fixed, then good.

3) Here's a biggy. Overall, I'm not too sure if a mask represents Deviant Art well. It makes me think more of theater art, rather than visual art.

Hope that helps. I'm positive this is better than anything I can come up with on my own. I'm interested to see what direction this takes =)

Well I think the concept is excellent and it looks good. Massive encouragement there. But somehow I think it's also very significant that the mask looks true enough to obscure the DA lettering intentions. I can envision you coloring the D eyehold + one of the mask feathers one color, the A a different color, and the two other mask feathers a third color - really pulling out the letters a bit more. Great idea though dude!

The logo as it is nothing less than a stroke of genius. The font combination of the name isn't quite as good. The find for 'deviant' is fine, but the font for 'ART' (while it's good to choose a separate font) needs to be a bit less heavy, a bit less bold. And/or it needs to extend to at least the same vertical height as the tips of the letters 'd' and 't' in 'deviant.'

Other than that, again, it's amazing. Great work!
